Constructing the advert

Today we were constructing our magazine advert to promote the artist we chose for our music video. It was quite challenging as Photoshop is a difficult picture editor to use but we used a previous candidates past advert as a template to guide us on how to make our advert unique and aesthetically pleasing. Below is a screenshot of the construction phase once we finished editing our image; we were trying to upload the picture onto blogger so it can be viewed.

Below is a picture of our teacher showing us how to overlay images on Photoshop.

Constructing the Digipak

Today my group and I were constructing our digipak, it was quite difficult for us on a whole because this is our first time exercising our skills in Adobe Photoshop. Below is a picture of our teacher helping us write some text over the front cover of our digipak.

We have done nearly every side of the digipak, we just need to do the back cover now.

Music Video Rough Cut/Feedback

This is some members of the audience that watched our rough cut version of the music video and they gave us some feedback.

Our feedback:
Great use of variety of locations
Spinning shot
Transitions between black and white to colour
Didn't like the borders on the split screen
Didn't put the name of the artist at the song at the beginning or end
Should put the scenes that show emotions in black and white for more of an effect

Now we have been given our feedback we will incorporate them into the final cut.

Editing Day 2

Today was the second day of editing, we have now completed 75% of the construction phase of our video. In the photo below we are just adding the remaining footage we recorded the previous week which was the band scene.

Below is a screenshot of us editing a specific clip to change on the beat. We had to go back and refer to our blog 'Editing On the Beat' to master the technique as we found it quite challenging at the beginning of the lesson.

By the end of the lesson we had finished nearly all of our editing, so we made a lot of progress. At the beginning of the lesson there were large gaps between the clips we had in our video but now there is only one small gap at the beginning of the video that we have to fill. We have also started playing around with effects to see what specific clips look better in black and white.

Editing Day 1

Today was the first day of editing for my group, we had to save all our clips onto the computer before uploading them onto Premiere Pro and using them otherwise when we remove the camera from the computer our media would disappear. We had to download our chosen song from YouTube and use mp3 converter to store it on the computer so it would be compatible when we drop and drag the song onto our project. We had to add our exam board, names and candidate numbers before adding any footage onto the video. Right now all we have are our cutaway headshot and midshot scenes of the "artist" (me) singing, we're just playing around with different shots seeing what works and what doesn't.

6th Day of Filming

Today we filmed in the school compound and it was mostly shots of me modelling near the trees so we could fill up the big gaps in our project, we took a few takes of me singing and walking around. Now all we have left is the band scene and a few shots of Shakira.

Filming Day 5

Today we filmed our dancing scene starring Shakira, this was a bit more complicated than the other scenes because it was a pivital moment in the video so we had to get everything right. We had to do some match-on-action shots so that was quite time consuming, we also had to be weary of the studio lights when Shakira was dancing just in case she tripped on them. Ralia was acting as a judge so her shots were simple, we just needed a few of her looking up so the audience know she's paying attention to Shakira.

Filming Day 4

Today I filmed some more cutaway scenes in central London. I wore a denim dress

Filming Day 3

Today we had to shoot Shakira warming up and doing a bit of exercise, it took about 30 minutes to record because we had to take multiple takes of the same shots so we can merge them together when we edit. The picture below is of me filming Shakira while she was running in the school playground.

2nd Day of Filming

Today was our second day of filming with the same location but a different area, today we shot in the school hallway. It was easier in a sense of experience, after filming yesterday I knew exactly how to take directions from Tayo so it was easier to understand each other but we did shoot more complex shots as I was modelling. We had to get the camera in awkward positions in order not to get the school door in the shot and ruin the shot as Tayo was filming me huddled in a corner. We did another shot of me modelling in the centre of the shot and as there was a lot of white background behind me Tayo found inspiration from it, she said we can add animation in our video! All the emotions that are expressed in the song can be floating in bubble writing on the blank wall and I pick the words up and throw them which will be interesting to edit and watch. We also got an extreme close up of my eyes opening to symbolise the start of the song and focuses on the dark eye shadow I was wearing to reflect the dark tones of the song. I wore double denim to look cliche and edgy rather than girly. Overall, today's shoot was successful we got a lot of useful footage and we are one step closer to the finishing product. Below is 'behind the scenes' footage.

1st Day of Filming

Today, we shot all our mid - shots we're going to be using in the cutaway scenes of the music videos so I had to lip - synch which was surprisingly straightforward (if you know the lyrics). We filmed it in school but you would never guess as you can only see the plain white background so it looks like a professional studio. Mr. Johnson set up the professional lights to cut all shadows away and bad lighting, it was quite warm on my face and blinding if you look directly at it but I still managed to pull through. I loved the experience of it all!

Below is a collage of pictures created from all the different angles we filmed.

As you can see there is a variation of shots and it is aesthetically pleasing to the eye... It will also make our music video look high quality when we've started editing it.

Storyboard

Today we created our storyboard the day before our first attempt of shooting. We did this as we need to have a physical draft of what we expect to see in the video, once I drew everything out it made the video look easier to tackle as it broke it down into baby steps. This is a vital step before filming and now we have higher hopes for the final product.

Mood Board

We created this mood board to get a better sense of what message we wanted to come through in our music video. Our mise - en - scene is clearer now because it is clear to all of us what emotions we want to come through such as sadeness and anger, in order for the video to correlate with the song. We also incorporated some concepts into the mood board, like dancing and heartbreak and we know we want the video to tell a story to the audience.
